Our Thanksgiving line-up

Yesterday we hosted our neighborhood Chili Feed.  It’s a great party because it’s the one time of year the guys are guaranteed to cook for us.  And they clean up afterwards.  So we just pour ourselves a glass of wine, eat their spicy chili with a dollop of sour cream, and vote for which one we think tastes best.

This year, Venison Chili took first prize.

And now that our Chili Feed is behind us, we’ve set our Thanksgiving line-up, culled from online cooking sites. We’ll cook one dish per day, so we’re not rushed on Thanksgiving. Here goes:

Monday: Pear, Brandy and Walnut Cranberry Sauce

Tuesday: Vanilla Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Wednesday: Sourdough Bread Stuffing

Thursday:  Roasted Turkey, stuffed with a compound butter

What’s on your line-up?

I’m off to the grocery store before the mad rush hits!

  1. Well…the line up started today with a Roast Chestnut soup….we’ll see what happens as the days progress….but remember I’m not American…

  2. Love the pear, cranberry sauce..but I would definitely use pecans :-)

  3. It looks like you have a great plan! I love the sound of the pear, brandy and walnut cranberry sauce. It’s a great idea to have this one make ahead of time, from my experience spices, pear and liqueur flavors develop beautifully in the refrigerator over days!

Are you planning to brine your turkey?

  4. Love the idea of a chili cook-off, but to be honest, around this table, the girls would be cooking for the chili cook-off, seeing as our men make the Thanksgiving dinner!!

  5. I think that is a wonderful neighborhood tradition. GREG

  6. I can’t wait to see the recipe for the vanilla mashed sweet potatoes – that sounds so good!

  7. Hello everybody, it is Thanksgiving Day! I’m enjoying my extra day off, and I am planning to doing something fun that will probably involve a car trip and seeing something new in Abington I haven’t seen yet.
