Maple Cayenne Walnuts, and a simpler life

We’re home from our vacation now, back in snowy Minneapolis, still pale but relaxed. We’re trying to stay focused on what’s important in our lives (note to self: it’s not Facebook), and let what doesn’t matter slide.

Because when you have three children, you learn that while your ability to love expands with each birth, your time and energy doesn’t. It simply gets divided. And where do you want your time and energy spent?

Today our 3-year-old and I made Maple Cayenne Walnuts for our Turn the Tub Around viewing party on Friday night (we’d love your vote; view Liz’s and my video at TurntheTubAround.com where you can cast your vote).

Maple Cayenne Walnuts, adapted from Always Superb, a cookbook by the Junior League of Minneapolis and St. Paul:

  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups walnut halves

(Real maple syrup guarantees our boys will snack on them, too, a great way to get omega-3s in.)

Mix first four ingredients well, and then add walnuts. Toss to coat. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Let cool before serving.
