She’d lost her husband and both her boys to cancer. “People are afraid of me because I’m old,” she said. I was relieved to see our children weren’t, that they were so giving of their time.

If your kids only knew how much they brightened her day! My mom always took my sister and I to visit elderly family members & friends when we were young, and I think it had a profound effect on us. I gained so much wisdom over the years.
